Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory over Shenandoah on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Peter Nelson (Charleston, W.V./ George Washington) scored the game's only goal.
The Yellow Jackets made a quick start to the game. Just 43 seconds into the contest, freshman defender Isaac Myers (Littlestown, Pa./ Gettysburg Area) crossed the ball into the box that Nelson headed into the back of the net.
R-MC played the remaining 89 minutes of the game with control and were unlucky not to increase its lead. The Yellow Jackets led in shots 32-3, shots on goal 11-2 and corner kicks 18-1.
Junior goalkeeper Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va./ W.T. Woodson) recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season. Breslin made two saves in the victory and has tallied three clean sheets in four ODAC matches.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets continued to dominate play, as senior Bryon Eubanks (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) was able to break up play and make an impact coming off the bench. Fellow senior Tyler Slayton (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) was able cause the Shenandoah defense problems on the right wing.
The defense was able to cope with SU's counter attacks, R-MC was led by junior Jacob McHugh (Aberdeen, Md./ West Nottingham Academy). The defense held SU to just two shots.
Randolph-Macon College improves to 7-2-2 and 3-1 in ODAC play. While Shenandoah falls to 0-12 and 0-4 in the ODAC.
R-MC will be back on the field on October 15th when it travels to play Washington & Lee. R-MC will be back at home on Tuesday, October 18th to play host to Hampden-Syndey.
