Nicholas, Cappadora Score for R-MC Field Hockey vs. VWC

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Kaitee Nicholas (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) scored at the end of the first half and junior Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) tallied a goal in the second half for the Randolph-Macon field hockey team before Virginia Wesleyan rallied for a 3-2 overtime ODAC win Wednesday evening at Day Field.

The Yellow Jackets (1-10, 0-5 ODAC) were awarded a penalty corner as time expired in the first half. A foul on the Marlins (4-7, 2-2 ODAC) gave R-MC a second penalty corner. Nicholas finished from 15 yards out on a pass from senior Skyler Seligman (Norfolk, Va./Granby) as the Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Junior Sara Sprinkel (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) fed Cappadora in front of the goal in the 49th minute as the Yellow Jackets built a 2-0 lead.

VWC tallied its first goal in the 59th minute and collected the equalizer with 4:40 left in regulation. The Marlins recorded the game-winner 1:39 into overtime.

R-MC finished with 13 shots, including seven on goal. Seligman had four shots, all on goal, while Nicholas added four shots, two on goal.

Junior Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va./Louisa County) registered nine saves for the home team.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Friday, Oct. 14, hosting Mary Washington at 7 p.m. on Day Field.
