Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - Freshman Kasey Booth (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) nailed a penalty kick in the second half as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action Tuesday evening at Day Field.
Following a scoreless first period, R-MC had a player taken down in the box in the 68th minute. Booth connected on the penalty kick, her first goal of the season, to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
After freshman goalkeeper Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) made a tough save in the 69th minute, the Marlins were able to net the equalizer in the 80th minute as Marli Hayward finished on the left side to level the match at 1-1.
The Yellow Jackets held a 4-0 edge in shots in the first overtime period, including three on goal, but could not hit the game-winner. Freshman Abbie Winkelmann (Gettysburg, Va./Gettysburg Area) fed a ball into the box that sophomore Jenna Burns (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) could not get her head on late in the second overtime period as the match would finish in a 1-1 draw.
VWC outshot R-MC 20-12, including 9-5 in shots on goal. Freshman Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) paced the Yellow Jackets with four shots and two shots on goal.
Newman collected eight saves for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon hits the road and plays at Hollins on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. The Yellow Jackets return home on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a 4 p.m. rescheduled ODAC contest against Bridgewater.
