Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) registered her eighth double-double of the season and senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) recorded a season-high 18 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team fell 82-66 to Lynchburg Saturday afternoon.
Anderson tallied 20 points and 16 rebounds for R-MC.
Anderson scored the first six points of the first quarter for R-MC to give the Yellow Jackets (6-6, 2-2 ODAC) an early 6-3 advantage. R-MC held the lead for two quarters. The Hornets (11-2, 4-0 ODAC) came within two points at 13-11 with 2:56 remaining before the Yellow Jackets used a 7-2 spurt to hold a 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Yellow Jackets started the second quarter on a 6-1 run to hold their largest lead of the game at 26-14 with 7:28 remaining until halftime. R-MC held a 34-24 advantage before the Hornets went on a 9-0 spurt to pull within one point, 34-33, with 2:45 to play. Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) drained a three-pointer to extend R-MC's lead back to four points. The Yellow Jackets held a 41-37 lead at halftime.
The Hornets used a 7-2 run to begin the third quarter to hold their first lead of the game at 44-43 with 8:13 remaining. The score was tied at 45-45 before the Hornets went on a 6-0 spurt to maintain a 51-45 lead. Anderson tallied a three-point play to face a 51-48 deficit. Lynchburg responded with a 5-0 run to lead by eight points with 3:32 remaining. The Hornets took a 59-53 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) scored the first layup of the fourth quarter to start a 6-0 run for the Yellow Jackets to erase the Hornets' lead and knot the score at 59-all with 8:29 to play. The score was tied twice more to reach 63-all before the Yellow Jackets held a three-point lead with 4:51 to play. The Hornets tied the score at 66-66 with 4:21 remaining and scored the final 16 points of the game to claim the ODAC win.
Livermon recorded 11 points and three assists.
Junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) entered today's contest ranked No.2 in the nation with an assist turnover ratio of 4.2. She tallied seven assists with no miscues tonight, raising her ratio to 5.0.
The Yellow Jackets continue ODAC play at home on Tuesday, January 12 at 7 p.m. against Eastern Mennonite.
