Box Score Virginia Beach, Va.—Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 23 points and 20 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team dropped a 66-62 ODAC contest to Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday evening.
Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) broke the program's all-time record for career three-point field goals made with 215. Livermon finished the night with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Yellow Jackets (6-5, 2-1 ODAC) grabbed an early 4-1 lead before the Marlins (3-9, 1-3 ODAC) tied the score at 9-9. Virginia Wesleyan held a 14-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Anderson scored the first basket of the second quarter to give R-MC a one-point lead. The Marlins tied the score at 17-all before the Yellow Jackets used a 5-0 spurt to hold a 22-17 lead with 5:52 remaining until halftime. Virginia Wesleyan responded and tied the score at 22-22 and held a 32-31 lead at the break.
The Marlins started the third quarter on a 7-2 spurt before R-MC countered with an 8-2 run to knot the score at 41-all just under halfway through the quarter. Freshman Deja Dennis (Owings Mills, Md. / Western Tech) started the run with a layup and Anderson added four points during the spurt. Livermon made a jump shot with 1:58 to put the Yellow Jackets ahead by one point, 47-46, but the Marlins added four points to finish the quarter with a three-point advantage.
The Marlins used a 9-3 run to hold a 59-50 lead with 5:47 to play in the fourth quarter. R-MC used a 12-5 run, which included back-to-back treys from Livermon and Intermill, to put the Yellow Jackets within two points at 64-62 with under a minute to play before the Marlins added two points to claim the 66-62 win.
The Yellow Jackets tallied 24 points on turnovers, capitalizing on 21 miscues from the Marlins.
Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) recorded eight points while junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) added seven points.
Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) paced R-MC with five assists and six points.
The Yellow Jackets return to action at home to continue ODAC play against Lynchburg on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
