Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) and senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) recorded 14 points each as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team was edged 66-63 by Guilford in ODAC action Thursday evening.
Anderson also led the team with nine rebounds.
The Quakers (14-2, 8-1 ODAC) held an early 13-5 advantage in the first quarter. Freshman Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va. / Heritage) drained a three-pointer with 3:25 to play to face a five-point deficit. Guilford maintained a 20-12 advantage to begin the second quarter.
Guilford opened the second quarter on an 8-0 spurt to hold its largest lead of the game at 28-12 with 6:48 remaining until halftime. The Yellow Jackets (8-8, 4-4 ODAC) ended the quarter on an 18-5 spurt to pull within three points at 33-30.
Anderson led the team with seven points and five rebounds at the break.
Wisner drained a triad of three-point shots to start the third quarter to give the Yellow Jackets a 44-39 advantage with 6:41 to play. Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) made a layup with 1:24 remaining to put R-MC ahead by seven points. The Yellow Jackets held a 48-44 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Quakers took the lead with a 7-0 run to begin the fourth quarter. R-MC regained the lead with a 4-0 spurt capped by a three-pointer from junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax). The score was tied at 54-all with 4:12 to play. Guilford held a 59-54 lead before the Yellow Jackets pulled within one-point at 59-58. The Quakers would again go up by four points before Livermon nailed a trey to again put R-MC within one-point with 0:06 to play as Guilford went on to claim the 66-63 win.
Wade led the reserves with seven points and two rebounds.
Livermon matched her career-high with five assists and tallied a season-high eight rebounds.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Randolph.
