Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va.— Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) recorded her tenth double-double of the season with 28 points and 14 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Bridgewater 82-80 in ODAC play Tuesday evening.
Anderson matched her career-high for points. She scored 28 points against Lynchburg last season.
Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) tallied her first double-double with 17 points and a season-high 11 assists.
The Eagles (7-8, 3-4 ODAC) held their largest lead of the game at 5-2 with 8:40 remaining in the first quarter before the score was tied at 7-7. The Yellow Jackets (8-7, 4-3 ODAC) used a 13-0 run to hold a 20-7 advantage halfway through the opening quarter. The Eagles ended the quarter on a 12-6 spurt to cut R-MC's lead to single digits at 26-19.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, which included back-to-back three pointers from senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan), to put R-MC ahead by 15 points with 8:04 remaining until halftime. The Eagles responded with a 7-0 spurt to pull within eight points at 34-26. Hester drained a trey to put the Yellow Jackets ahead by 11 points at the halfway mark of the quarter. The Eagles would again come within eight points with 3:34 to play but R-MC maintained a 43-32 lead at the break.
R-MC converted on two turnovers by the Eagles to hold its largest lead of the game at 48-32 with 8:56 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles went on a 12-2 run to pull within six points at 50-44 with just under four minutes left. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 6-0 spurt before the Eagles ended the quarter on a 9-1 run to make the score 57-53.
The Eagles started the fourth quarter with a 10-5 run to knot the score at 63-63 with 5:53 to play. Anderson scored seven straight points for R-MC to give the Yellow Jackets a 70-63 advantage. The Eagles put together an 11-5 run to pull within one-point at 75-74 with 1:51 remaining. Bridgewater had a chance to tie the score at 77-all with 1:06 to play but missed the free-throw, allowing Hester to make a layup and extend the lead back to three-points at 79-76. Anderson made both tries at the charity stripe with 0:30 to play to give R-MC a five-point advantage as the Yellow Jackets held on to claim the 82-80 win.
Livermon recorded nine points and three assists while junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) added eight points and three assists for R-MC.
Freshman Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va. / Heritage) led the reserves with seven points.
Randolph-Macon returns home on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Guilford. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Jan. 23 but was rescheduled due to potential winter weather over the weekend.
