Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. – Senior Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) scored a career-best 27 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team posted a 79-68 ODAC victory at Shenandoah on Wednesday evening.
Moore went 11 for 14 from the floor, 2 for 2 on three-pointers and 3 for 4 from the free throw line. He also had six rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Yellow Jackets (7-7, 3-2 ODAC).
The game was tied three times in the first four minutes before layups by freshman Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) and junior Boris Ngundji (Richmond, Va./Fuqua School) gave R-MC a 12-8 lead six minutes into the contest. The Hornets (3-11, 0-5 ODAC) sank a pair of three-pointers to take a 14-12 advantage with 13:20 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets scored the next 10 points to take a 22-14 lead with 9:20 remaining. Sophomore Sean Ryan (Plainfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) hit a three-pointer with just under three minutes remaining as R-MC led 36-23 before taking a 36-26 lead at intermission. Moore and Midulla both had seven points in the first period.
R-MC maintained a double-figure lead through most of the second half. Moore had nine points during a 13-4 spurt at the start of the second half as the Yellow Jackets built a 49-32 lead with 14:30 left. The advantage grew to 19 at 65-46 with six minutes remaining. The Hornets put together a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to nine at 69-60 with 2:30 left. Moore scored five straight to spark a 7-0 run as the lead grew back to 16 at 76-60 with one minute remaining. R-MC posted a 79-68 victory.
Sophomore Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Yellow Jackets. Midulla recorded 10 points and five assists off the bench. Freshman Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) had nine points and eight boards.
Randolph-Macon stays on the road for an ODAC contest at first-place Roanoke on Saturday, January 16 at 2 p.m.
