Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) led all scorers with 29 points and senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) recorded her ninth double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Eastern Mennonite 90-83 in overtime Tuesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (7-6, 3-2 ODAC) held a 72-70 advantage before the Royals (10-3, 3-2 ODAC) tied the score with two seconds remaining to force the extra time.
The score was tied at 73-all early in overtime before Anderson scored a layup followed by a three-pointer from senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) to give R-MC a five-point lead. The Royals cut R-MC's lead to one point at 82-81 with 1:13 remaining but the Yellow Jackets scored eight of the last 10 points to claim the ODAC win.
R-MC faced a 55-51 deficit to begin the fourth quarter but quickly tied the score at 55-55 with 9:28 remaining in regulation. The Royals held a four-point advantage with just over three minutes to play before Livermon tallied a layup followed by a three-pointer from junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) to give the Yellow Jackets a 65-64 lead with 2:14 to play. The score was tied at 67-all with 1:03 remaining. R-MC used a 4-0 spurt to pull ahead but the Royals tied the score at 72-72 to force overtime.
Livermon nailed a three-pointer to start the game to put R-MC ahead. The Yellow Jackets held a slim 14-13 advantage before the Royals used a 13-4 spurt to maintain their largest lead of the game at 27-18 with under a minute remaining in the first quarter. EMU owned a 27-21 lead at the end of the first quarter. Livermon led all scorers with 10 points after the first stanza.
R-MC opened the second quarter on an 11-5 run to tie the score at 32-32 with 4:50 remaining until halftime. The score was tied three more times through 38-38. R-MC scored the last three points of the quarter to maintain a 41-38 advantage at halftime.
The Royals scored eight of the first 10 points of the third quarter to regain the lead at 46-43. Livermon nailed a three-pointer to tie the score at 46-all with 4:22 remaining. The Royals used a 9-3 run to hold a six-point lead. Anderson tallied a layup at the buzzer to cut EMU's lead to four-points at 55-51 at the end of the third quarter.
Intermill and freshman Deja Dennis (Owings Mills, Md. / Western Tech) recorded career-highs with nine points and six points, respectively.
Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) tallied a career-high nine rebounds and went 4-4 from the charity stripe.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on the road on Saturday, Jan. 16 for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest against Emory & Henry.
