Box Score ASHLAND, Va. –Senior Logan McHugh (Aberdeen, Md. / West Nottingham Academy) scored a goal and tallied two assists as the Randolph-Macon men's soccer team shut out William Peace 5-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Matt Rannie (Abingdon, Md. / Bel Air) headed a ball into the back of the net off a cross from sophomore Jake Tyler (Colonial Heights, Va. / Colonial Heights) during a corner kick from McHugh in the 16th minute. That goal gave the Yellow Jackets (3-2) a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
Senior Andrew Schaefer (Allentown, Pa. / Emmaus) drew a penalty kick in the 49th minute, which Logan McHugh converted to give R-MC a 2-0 lead over the Pacers (0-6).
On a free kick in the 69th minute, Logan McHugh kicked the ball into the box where his brother, junior Jacob McHugh (Aberdeen, Md. / West Nottingham Academy), found the back of the net.
With a 3-0 advantage, senior Greg Noordanus (Leiderdorp, Netherlands / Cape Henry Collegiate) found freshman Zach Olmsted (La Plata, Md. / La Plata) in the 79th minute.
Senior Anthony Polakiewicz (South Hill, Va. / Park View) crossed the ball to Schaefer, who recorded his third goal of the season in the 84th minute. Schaefer was a spark for the Yellow Jackets recording two shots on goal and drawing a penalty kick in just 29 minutes.
Freshman Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) recorded two saves in the shutout victory. He was helped in defense by junior Jack Maxey (Salem, Va. / Salem), freshman Brad Robertson (Mechanicsville, Va. / Atlee), Jacob McHugh, Noordanus and Tyler. This was the Yellow Jackets' second consecutive shutout and the third on the season.
R-MC held a 26-9 advantage in shots, recording 13 shots in each period.
The Yellow Jackets play their final non-conference game on the road against Stevenson on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. before returning home to begin ODAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. against Roanoke.
