ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, VA / Nansemond River) and junior Rachel Wyatt (Virginia Beach, VA / Princess Anne) recorded seven kills each as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team claimed a 3-0 ODAC victory over Randolph Tuesday evening in the conference opener.

The Yellow Jackets (9-1, 1-0 ODAC) claimed the first set 25-9, took the second set 25-17 and sealed the victory with a 25-19 win in the third set.

R-MC opened the first set on a 7-0 run and held the lead for the remainder of the set. The Yellow Jackets allowed the Wildcats (2-8, 0-1 ODAC) to come within six points at 8-2 before going on a 17-7 run to claim the first set.

Sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, NC / Cardinal Gibbons) served five straight points to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-0 lead in the second set. The Wildcats tied the score at 7-7 and faced a two-point deficit at 14-12. The Yellow Jackets took the set on an 11-5 run. 

R-MC started the third set with a 4-2 lead and expanded it to 10-3 with a 6-1 run. Freshman Emily Fitzwater (Bealeton, VA / Liberty) served five points during the spurt. The Yellow Jackets expanded their advantage to double-digits at 20-10 and went on to win the third set 25-19.

Quinn registered 25 assists for R-MC and sophomore Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, VA / Kettle Run) paced the Yellow Jackets with nine digs.

The Yellow Jackets play their next three matches on the road before returning home on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Lynchburg.
