Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team posted a 77-63 ODAC victory at Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (16-3, 9-2 ODAC) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and owned an 11-7 advantage before the Marlins (12-8, 6-5 ODAC) knotted the score at 11-11 just over eight minutes into the contest. R-MC scored 11 straight points to take a 22-11 lead with 7:15 to go in the period. Sophomore Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) nailed her third three-pointer of the half with 4:15 remaining to give the Yellow Jackets a 15-point lead at 29-14. VWC pulled with 11 at 30-19 before Anderson hit the final two buckets of the half to give R-MC a 34-19 lead at intermission. Berry finished with 11 first-half points and Anderson added 10 points and seven rebounds. The Yellow Jackets held the Marlins to 28.6% shooting from the floor.
R-MC put together a 13-5 spurt in the first six minutes of the second half to enjoy its largest lead of 23 at 47-24. VWC used a 28-13 run to cut the deficit to eight at 60-52 with 6:22 remaining. The Yellow Jackets withstood the rally and pushed the lead back to 17 at 77-60 before claiming the 77-63 win.
It was the second win of the season for R-MC over VWC. The Yellow Jackets edged the Marlins 80-74 on Jan. 13 in Ashland.
Berry was 4 for 4 on three-pointers and made both her free throws for a season-high 14 points. She had scored a total of nine points in the previous eight games. Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) chipped in 12 points for R-MC.
Kelly Jones led the Marlins with 22 points.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 for a 2 p.m. home ODAC contest against Hollins.
