Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) registered a career-high 35 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Washington and Lee 88-70 Tuesday evening in the conference opener for both teams.
Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) registered 24 points and nine rebounds for R-MC
The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 1-0 ODAC) outscored the Generals (1-3, 0-1 ODAC) in three out of four quarters. Washington and Lee held a 19-18 scoring advantage at the end of the first period.
Livermon scored the first seven points for the Yellow Jackets en route to a 7-2 lead in the first quarter. R-MC expanded its lead with an 11-7 spurt to hold a 16-9 lead. The Generals closed the first quarter with a 10-0 run to gain a one-point, 19-18, advantage.
The score was tied three times through 25-all to begin the second quarter before the Yellow Jackets tallied a 12-1 run to gain the lead for good and hold a 37-26 advantage. Anderson recorded eight of the points during the spurt. R-MC extended its lead to 15-points with an 8-4 run to hold a 45-30 lead with 2:15 remaining until halftime. The Yellow Jackets held a 47-37 lead at halftime.
Washington and Lee added two early baskets in the third quarter before senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) recorded a jump shot to give R-MC a 49-40 advantage. The Generals added pressure in the third quarter to cut their deficit to seven points. Freshman Deja Dennis (Owings Mills, Md. / Western Tech) added a layup with 3:00 to play to extend R-MC's lead to ten points, 59-49. The Yellow Jackets maintained a 65-53 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Anderson tallied eight of R-MC's first 13 points in the fourth quarter and senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) registered the remaining four points as R-MC held a 78-64 advantage with 4:45 to play. Sophomore Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va. / Potomac Falls) scored a jump shot with 2:49 to play and added the final two free throws of the game at 1:11 to give R-MC its largest lead and the 88-70 victory.
Reynolds registered 11 points and six rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
Hester paced R-MC with seven assists.
R-MC shot 71.4% from behind the arc compared to 21.1% for the Generals.
The Yellow Jackets return to action at home on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Roanoke.
