ASHLAND, Va.—Randolph-Macon sophomore Bryan Lutz (Fairfax, Va. / W. T. Woodson) scored in the 33rd minute as the Yellow Jackets claimed a 1-0 ODAC win over Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon to secure a berth in the upcoming conference tournament.

Senior Anthony Polakiewicz (South Hill, Va. / Park View) crossed the ball to Lutz for the game's lone goal.

The Yellow Jackets (9-8, 5-5 ODAC) held a 31-5 advantage in shots over the Hornets (5-9-2, 2-6-2 ODAC). R-MC recorded double-digit shots in each period with 20 in the first period and 11 in the last stanza.

Freshman Seth Manis (Boydton, Va. / Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Academy) led the Yellow Jackets with 10 shots, four of which were on goal. Freshman Diego Tacaraya (Woodbridge, Va. / W.T. Woodson) recorded six shots and Lutz added five.

The R-MC defense, consisting of senior Greg Noordanus (Leiderdorp, Netherlands / Cape Henry Collegiate), junior Jack Maxey (Salem, Va. / Salem), sophomore Jake Tyler (Colonial Heights, Va. / Colonial Heights) and Polakiewicz, helped the Yellow Jackets post their seventh shutout of the season, the highest total since the team recorded 11 in 2005. Freshman goalkeeper Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson) saved the Hornets' only shot on goal.

This will be the first appearance in the postseason for the men's soccer program since 2011. R-MC has five conference wins this season. The last time the Yellow Jackets had more conference wins was 2000, when the team finished with a 6-3 ODAC record.

The Yellow Jackets return to action at home on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. for their regular season finale against Bridgewater.
