Anderson Posts Seventh Double-Double as R-MC Tops Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va.—Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) registered her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds and junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) tallied 21 points and six boards as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team topped Roanoke 74-61 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) added 21 points and three rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (10-2, 3-1 ODAC).

The Maroons (4-8, 1-3 ODAC) jumped out to an early lead after a 10-2 run with 15:55 remaining in the first half. Livermon cut Roanoke's lead to four points after nailing a three-pointer at 14:47 to bring the score to 12-8. Roanoke stretched its lead back to six points. Parsons scored a trey with 9:43 remaining to bring R-MC within two points at 21-19. A steal by Parsons followed by a layup at 5:37 tied the score at 28-28. A jumper by sophomore Stephanie Staples (Mechanicsville, VA/ Atlee) stretched the Yellow Jackets' advantage to four points at 33-29 with 3:57 left to play until halftime. Roanoke responded and the Yellow Jackets would take a 33-32 advantage to halftime.

An early jumper by Parsons at 19:54 gave R-MC a three-point advantage. The lead continued to expand as junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate) found Livermon for a trey at 17:52, bringing the score to 40-35. The Yellow Jackets went on a 20-6 run over the next eight minutes, capped by a three-pointer from sophomore Marisha Berry (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) with 9:27 remaining, to expand the lead to 60-41. The Maroons cut R-MC's advantage to seven points with 3:36 to play but the Yellow Jackets answered and Livermon knocked down her seventh three-pointer of the game with 2:18 left in the contest. R-MC would go onto win 74-61.

Randolph-Macon shot 44.3% from the field and were 100% (7-7) from the free throw line. Roanoke shot 39.2% overall and 61.8% (21-34) from the free throw line.

The Yellow Jackets return to Crenshaw Gymnasium on Tuesday January 13, 2015 at 7 p.m. against Virginia Wesleyan for an ODAC contest.
