Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) led all players with 18 kills, 36 total attacks and 19 digs as the top-seeded Randolph-Macon volleyball team swept No. 8 Shenandoah in three sets Wednesday evening in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Championship at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets (20-10) earned the right to host the semifinals and finals on Saturday, Nov. 8. R-MC will face fourth-seeded Lynchburg in the first semifinal match at 10 a.m., while No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan and No. 3 Washington & Lee meet in the second semifinal match at 12:30 p.m. The winners will face off at 5 p.m. for the ODAC title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
R-MC took the opening set 25-22 before taking the second set 25-14. The Yellow Jackets completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the final set.
In Game 1, R-MC jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead before the Hornets (16-14) worked their way back. SU led 21-20 before the Yellow Jackets scored five of the final six points to secure the win.
R-MC dominated early in the second game, building a 15-5 advantage. The Hornets were able to cut the deficit to 18-14 before the Yellow Jackets tallied the final seven points to take Game 2.
Shenandoah led 5-4 in Game 3 before Randolph-Macon scored six straight points to take a 10-5 lead on its way to the sweep.
Lowers, the current ODAC Player of the Week, had an attack percentage of .389.
Freshman Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) recorded 21 assists and eight digs for the Yellow Jackets. Junior Riley Martin (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) had 12 assists and seven digs.
Junior Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) contributed 10 digs, seven kills and 31 total attacks for the victors.
