Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) led all scorers with 18 points and junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) added 12 points and eight rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team added another road victory with a 68-58 decision over Marymount on Wednesday night.
Senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) added 12 points and four assists for the Yellow Jackets (2-0) while sophomores Stephanie Staples (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) both registered eight points and two steals. Junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) added eight assists.
Senior Caroline Young (Burke, Va./ Lake Braddock) scored the first basket of the game to give R-MC an early lead before the Saints (1-1) capitalized on two turnovers by the Yellow Jackets to take a four-point lead at 11-7 with 14:57 remaining in the first half. A layup by Parsons tied the score at 11-11 with 12:14 remaining until halftime. The Saints fought back and took a five-point lead, 20-15, but a jumper by Staples at 8:03, cut the lead to three points. Livermon capitalized on a turnover by Marymount and nailed a three-pointer to tie the score 20-20 with 6:00 remaining. However, the Saints scored nine straight points to bring the score to 29-20. A trey by Livermon cut the lead to five with just under two minutes left in the half, but the Saints again countered and would take a nine-point lead to halftime, 34-25.
The Saints converted on an early turnover in the second half by the Yellow Jackets to take an 11-point lead with 19:44 to go. However, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on steals by Hester and Parsons to cut the lead to seven, 40-33 and stop the Saints' rally. Parsons made two free throws to bring R-MC within two points with just less than twelve minutes to play. After stealing the ball, Berry made a trey to give the Yellow Jackets a one-point advantage, 45-44, with 11:40 remaining. Berry nailed another trey after stealing the ball to stretch R-MC's lead to seven, 51-44. The Saints would cut the lead to three with just under six minutes to play but the Yellow Jackets did not falter and a trey by Livermon with 2:17 to go stretched the lead to 10 points and sealed the victory for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon returns home this weekend to host the Tip-Off Classic hosted by Riesbeck Contracting. The Yellow Jackets will face Methodist at 6:00 p.m. on Friday Nov. 21, and Stevenson on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 4:00 p.m.
