Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Junior Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) led all players with 16 kills and 43 total attacks as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team swept Virginia Wesleyan to reclaim sole possession of first place in the ODAC.
The Yellow Jackets (17-7, 9-1 ODAC) dominated in Game 1 with a 25-12 victory. R-MC took each of the final two game by 25-19 scores.
R-MC jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the opening game and watched it grow to 18-6 before claiming the 25-12 win. The second game was tied 13-13 before the Yellow Jackets scored four straight to take a 17-13 advantage. R-MC still led 22-19 before scoring the final three points to secure Game 2. The Yellow Jackets built a 10-7 lead before VWC scored five straight points to take a 12-10 advantage. R-MC tallied three straight points to retake the lead at 13-12 and did not trail again. With the score tied at 14-14, the Yellow Jackets recorded six straight points to take a 20-14 lead on their way to a 25-19 victory.
Junior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) added 13 kills, 35 total attacks and 11 digs for R-MC.
Freshman Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) paced the Yellow Jackets with 16 assists and contributed nine digs. Junior Riley Martin (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) recorded 14 assists for R-MC.
Freshman Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./Peninsula Catholic) led all players with 25 digs. Rossberg added eight digs for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon travels to No. 13 Christopher Newport on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
