Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) scored a goal and notched two assists to lead the Randolph-Macon field hockey team past Virginia Wesleyan 5-1 in ODAC action on a cold and soggy Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (5-10, 4-2 ODAC) took the early lead as junior Mackenzie Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) scored in the fifth minute on an assist by senior Rachael Gardner (Rapidan, Va./Orange County). The tally went to 2-0 in the 13th minute as Jacobs scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season. The Marlins (3-12, 1-5 ODAC) got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute to make it 2-1 at halftime.
R-MC dominated the second half. Jacobs assisted on a goal by fellow senior Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) in the 41st minute and also on a goal by junior Kali Carroll (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle) in the 52nd minute as the Yellow Jackets built a 4-1 lead. Freshman Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, Md.) completed the scoring in the 67th minute on as assist by sophomore Skyler Seligman (Norfolk, Va./Granby) to make the final 5-1.
The Yellow Jackets held a 26-13 advantage in shots. Turner led with seven shots (three on goal), while all four of Pricone's shots were on goal.
Freshman Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va.) recorded seven saves for R-MC.
The game was R-MC's Play4theCure contest. Coaches and players from both teams wore pink to help raise funds and awareness in the battle against cancer. The teams played with pink field hockey balls as well. Donations were also accepted to help fund research in the fight against cancer. Randolph-Macon completes its regular-season home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 11:30 a.m. against ODAC-rival Washington and Lee.
