Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—Juniors Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, VA / Nansemond River) and Katie Rossberg (Crozet, VA/ Western Albemarle) recorded 17 kills and 10 kills, respectively, as Randolph-Macon lost to Washington & Lee in five games Saturday in ODAC volleyball action.
The Yellow Jackets (15-7, 7-2 ODAC) won the first set 25-20. The Generals (20-4, 8-1 ODAC) took the next two sets (25-14, 25-21). Randolph-Macon evened the match by clinching the fourth set 25-22 before the Generals won the fifth set 18-16.
Randolph-Macon never trailed after jumping to a 5-0 lead with assistance from Freshman Erin Quinn (Morrisville, NC/ Cardinal Gibbons). The Generals tied the score at 5-5 and stayed within five points of the lead for the entire game.
After giving up the second and third games, the Jackets opened the fourth game with a 4-1 lead. The Generals paced closely behind before the Jackets opened up an 18-13 lead and clenched the game.
In the deciding set, the Jackets stretched the game beyond 15 points after facing a 3-0 deficit early. The Jackets stayed close and tied the game ten times before giving up the deciding set to the Generals.
Lowers tallied 59 total attacks followed closely by Rossberg with 51.
Senior Bailey Troia (Virginia Beach, VA / Ocean Lakes) recorded 16 assists and Quinn added 14 assists.
Freshman Samantha Sallade (Newport News, VA / Peninsula Catholic) had 26 digs.
Randolph-Macon would play again later in the afternoon against Franklin & Marshall in a non-conference match.
