Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Riley Martin (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) recorded 14 assists and 10 digs as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team swept its ODAC match from Shenandoah Friday evening at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
The first-place Yellow Jackets (15-6, 8-0 ODAC) took the opener 25-20, won Game 2 by the score of 25-15 and rolled through the finale at 25-9.
Game 1 was tight early, before R-MC build a 15-10 lead. The Hornets (13-9, 3-4 ODAC) scored of the next seven points to knot the score at 16-16. It was tied at 20-20 before the Yellow Jackets tallied the final points to secure the win.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the second game and pushed it to 19-8 before claiming the 25-15 decision. In Game 3, the Yellow Jackets held a slim 8-7 lead before scoring 17 of the game's final 19 points.
Martin also had a kill and four attacks for R-MC. Junior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) paced the Yellow Jackets with 12 kills and 39 total attacks. She also added six digs.
Freshman Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./Peninsula Catholic) led R-MC with 17 digs, while junior Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) contributed 10 digs, eight kills and 30 total attacks. Freshman Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) had 12 assists, nine digs and three service aces for the victors.
The Yellow Jackets will play two home matches on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Crenshaw Gymnasium. R-MC will face Washington and Lee in an ODAC contest at 11 a.m. The Yellow Jackets will tangle with Franklin & Marshall at 3 p.m. in a non-conference clash. W&L and F&M will play against each other at 1 p.m.
