Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—The Yellow Jackets pulled off their second
win of the Randolph-Macon Invitational today in Crenshaw Gymnasium
as Virginia Wesleyan put up a four-set fight.
In their first set, R-MC (5-0) attacked the net with authority
that kept many Marlins on their heels as they won 25-17. Virginia
Wesleyan came into the second set determined to knock off R-MC. The
Marlins kept the lead most of the game, ultimately winning
25-21.
In the final two sets, the Jackets rallied toward two
victories (25-18, 25-16).
Sophomore Katie
Rossberg (Crozet, VA) led the match in kills (15) and attacks
(41). Outside-hitter Courtney
Lowers (Suffolk, VA) added 11 kills and 27 attacks on just 3
errors. Setter Riley Martin
(Crozet, VA) led the day with 24 assists as junior Bailey Troia
(Virginia Beach, VA) had an additional 19 assists. Libero Marli
Dabareiner had 19 digs along with 17 from Rossberg. Senior Tori
Puryear (Madison, VA) had 4 solo blocks to brush back the
Marlins.
R-MC out-blocked the Marlins 8 blocks to 5 and had a .242
hitting percentage over their .087.
The Jackets continue match play Saturday at 12:30 PM in
Crenshaw Gymnasium against Emory University.
