Box Score 2 WINCHESTER, VA – Randolph-Macon Softball took a pair of games from ODAC opponent Shenandoah University to improve to 32-6 overall and 14-4 in the conference. The Yellow Jackets took game one 4-0 and cruised to an 8-2 win in game two.
With the wins, Randolph-Macon has secured at least the fourth seed in the upcoming ODAC Softball Tournment and sit just two games out of first place. The Yellow Jackets wrap up the regular season when they travel to the conference's second place team Roanoke College Sunday, April 21st for a 1:30 doubleheader.
After two scoreless innings, R-MC lit up the scoreboard in the top of the third when Madison Gilman drove home Christa Simon. Simon reached on a single up the middle and proceeded to steal second and advance to third on a throwing error. Gilman then singled up the middle to give the Yellow Jackets the 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets continued the offensive production, putting up two more scores in the top of the fourth. Sharese Jarvis came through with a two out, two run single to left that scored Amanda Sopko and Michalann Camp.
Heather Lewis helped her own cause by driving in the final run for the Yellow Jackets with a single to score Jessica Matthews and secure the win.
Lewis tossed a five hit shutout for her 18th win of the season. The senior went all seven innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
Simon led the Yellow Jackets in game one, going 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Jenna Best and Lewis both finished 2-for-4, while Jarvis finished with a game-high two RBI.
Shenandoah started out game two strong, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless through three innings and taking a 2-0 lead.
The Yellow Jacket bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth as R-MC scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead over the Hornets. Jarvis started out the inning with a double to right field and was sent home by a Best single to left center. Camp followed with a double to left field to score Lewis and Best.
R-MC's defense behind the arm of Kristen Dize held strong the rest of the game, allowing only one Shenandoah hit in the final three innings of play while the offense put up five more runs to capture the win.
Jarvis finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Camp drove a in a game-high three RBI and finished 2-for-3. Dize picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets, her 12th of the season, pitching all seven innings and finished with one strike out.
