Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Randolph-Macon Softball (19-4 / 4-2 ODAC) dropped a pair of tightly contested games against Virginia Wesleyan 7-5 and 3-1 Wednesday afternoon. For the first time in program history, R-MC Softball is receiving votes (10) in the NFCA Coaches Poll.
After two scoreless innings in game one, Virginia Wesleyan (21-4 / 9-0 ODAC) broke through for four runs on four hits and one Randolph-Macon error. Lindsey Inzana drove in a run with a single and Season Daily plated two with a double down the left field line.
After the Marlins tacked on two more in the fifth to go up 6-0, the Yellow Jackets' offense came to life when Sharese Jarvis blasted a two run homerun to left center. Madison Gilman was then hit by a pitch and Jenna Best singled to set up Katie Woody who belted a three run homerun over the fence in straight away center.
Tori Higginbotham's solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth added an insurance run for VWC to seal the 7-5 win.
Michalann Camp finished 2-for-2 at the plate and was hit by a pitch while Jarvis and Woody drove in two and three runs respectively. Heather Lewis (11-2) is stuck with just her second loss of the season after allowing three earned runs on 12 hits.
Virginia Wesleyan pushed across a run in the first inning of game two on Inzana's RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
Christa Simon answered for Randolph-Macon in the third with a double to center which scored Lauryn Nanny who had reached on a single.
The Marlins loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third but the Yellow Jackets limited the damage, allowing just one run.
Randolph-Macon could not rally in the final innings and Virginia Wesleyan tacked on another run to take game two 3-1.
Kristen Dize (6-2) suffers the loss for the Yellow Jackets despite allowing just two earned runs on nine hits.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Wednesday, April 3rd when they host Sweet Briar College for a 3:30 doubleheader.
