Randolph-Macon Hits Seven Homeruns in Sweep of Emory and Henry

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Ashland, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Softball team took advantage of seven homeruns on the day to capture two victories over Emory and Henry in conference play on Saturday afternoon. With the first victory the Yellow Jackets improved to 18-2 and broke the program record for most wins after 20 games, previously 17-3 set by the 2008 squad.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 19-2 on the season and 4-0 in the ODAC, while the Wasps fall to 8-10 and 0-2 in conference play.

Sharese Jarvis started off game one strong, scoring the only run with her first homerun of the day and sixth on the season.

R-MC continued to increase its lead in the bottom of the second starting with a Lacey Berry single to second base to send home Katie Woody. Christa Simon followed with a triple to deep center field to score Berry, Lauryn Nanny and Amanda Sopko to bring the Yellow Jacket lead to 5-0.

Heather Lewis continued the rally when she grounded out to the pitcher to score Simon. Jarvis followed with her second homerun of the game and team-leading seventh on the season. The designated player, Jenna Best, ended the scoring with a single to center field to score Madison Gilman and extend the lead to 8-0.

Emory and Henry answered in the top of the fourth as Taylor Doss sent a ball flying over the fence and scored Ashley Ebersole along the way to make the score 8-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Gilman hit a walk-off homerun that scored Jarvis to end the game with the Yellow Jackets up 10-2.

Lewis pitched all six innings allowing only five hits and struck out one. She now improves to 11-1 on the season.

Randolph-Macon started game two right where it left off with a Sopko homerun to give the Yellow Jackets the early 1-0 lead.

Yellow Jackets extended their lead after Jarvis, Gilman and Woody each hit a homerun in the bottom of the third. Jarvis now has team and ODAC leading eight homeruns, while Gilman has four on the season.

Doss singled to center field to score Kaitlyn Pruitt for the Wasps in the top of the seventh, but that is as close as they would get as Kristen Dize struck out Bethany Anderson and Hannah Bays to secure the win.

Dize picked up her sixth win on the mound for R-MC, pitching seven innings and striking out five.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on March 27th when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 3:00 p.m. start. The game with Roanoke on the 24th has been postponed and will be played on Sunday, April 21st at 1:30 p.m.
