ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Andre Simon (Newport News, Va./Menchville) led all scorers with 22 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team defeated Catholic 80-63 Sunday at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Simon put up 13 in the first half as the Yellow Jackets (4-3) built a 42-29 advantage at the break. R-MC scored the first five points of the contest and never trailed. The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to eight at 25-17 with 9:25 to go in the period. The Cardinals (4-3) narrowed the gap to five at 32-27 with 4:30 left before R-MC closed the half on a 10-2 run for the 13-point halftime cushion.

The Yellow Jackets twice led by 22 in the second stanza, 56-34 with 14:25 remaining and 70-48 with 7:30 to go before posting the 17-point victory.

Sophomore Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) had 13 points for the victors, while junior Connor Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) added 12.

R-MC owned a 47-35 edge in rebounds. Junior Akeem Holmes (King William, Va./King William) pulled down 12 boards, while Simon grabbed eight. Catholic entered the game sixth in the nation in rebounding margin at 11.2.

Bryson Fonville and Kevin Phanord both scored 11 for the Cardinals.

The Yellow Jackets hit the road on Wednesday, Dec. 18 for a 5 p.m. contest at Cabrini, which is undefeated and ranked No. 4 in the country.
