ASHLAND, Va. – Junior forward Rachel Gardner (Rapidan, Va./Orange County) tallied the game's lone goal with less than eight minutes remaining as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team edged Eastern Mennonite 1-0 Tuesday in ODAC action.

The Yellow Jackets (7-5, 5-0 ODAC) dominated play, holding a 29-4 advantage in shots. Junior back Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) led R-MC with nine shots, including two shot on goal. Gardner was next with five shots, including four on goal. She scored with 7:16 remaining to break the scoreless tie.

The Royals (2-10, 2-1 ODAC) had a great chance to notch the equalizer with less than four minutes remaining, but senior back Olivia Newman (Orange, Va./Orange County) made a head-high save to keep EMU off the scoreboard.

Senior goalkeeper Steph Talley (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) had a pair of saves in recording the shutout.

The Jackets have now won four straight matches, all conference contests. R-MC travels to Lynchburg on Sunday, Oct. 13, for a 5 p.m. match-up.
