Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior running back Will McGhee (Fishersville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns, including a school-record 99-yard TD run, as Randolph-Macon outscored Emory & Henry in front of 2,555 fans at Day Field in the ODAC opener for both teams.
The Wasps (3-1, 0-1 ODAC) scored with 52 seconds left in the second quarter as Kyle Boden hit Chad Williams with a 15-yard scoring strike to pull E&H with three at 17-14. The Yellow Jackets (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) put together a 67-yard drive in five plays, as junior quarterback Zac Naccarato (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) hit senior wide receiver Christian Cook (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) on a 39-yard scoring strike with two tenths of a second left in the half at R-MC took a 24-14 lead at the break.
The Jackets dominated the third quarter, holding the ball for 11:46. Naccarato hit junior wide receiver Mike Doe (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) with a 56-yard scoring pass to make it 31-14. McGhee had a four-yard TD run to cap a 13-play, 62-yard drive as R-MC led 38-14. E&H had the ball twice in the third period and went three-and-out on both possessions.
The Wasps scored with 9:11 left and picked off a pass to attempt to cut more into the R-MC lead. The Jackets forced a fumble and took over on their own two. A delay of game penalty moved the ball back a yard to the one. McGhee then took the ball and streaked down the left sideline for a 99-yard TD run and a 45-20 advantage.
It was the second straight 200-yard rushing game for McGhee. He had 296 yards on 42 carries with three touchdowns at Bethany. McGhee entered the game as on the top rushers and scorers in Division III.
The Jackets amassed 362 yards on 55 carries. E&H was held to 70 rushing yards on 21 carries. R-MC held an advantage of 35:51 to 24:09 in time of possession.
Naccarato went 13 for 18 for 187 yards and a pair of TDs.
Senior Abel Simpson (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) led the defense with 10 tackles. Sophomore linebacker Tom Buchanan (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) had two tackles for loss and a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
The Yellow Jackets head to Catholic on Friday, Oct. 11, for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
