Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—Crenshaw Gymnasium shook with intensity this
evening as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team ousted nationally
ranked Christopher Newport (No. 24) 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 24-26,
25-22) in an eventful Family Weekend match.
The Captains (11-11, 1-0 CAC) began the first set with six
unanswered points that seemed to give CNU the early favor. The
Jackets (13-6, 4-1 ODAC) would respond from there and push
forward.
Senior middle-hitter Tori Puryear
(Madison, VA / Madison) had a team-high 12 kills on 24 attempts
(.458) alongside Katie
Rossberg (Crozet, VA / Western Albemarle) who added 11 kills on
30 attempts.
The Yellow Jacket points were supported by Riley Martin
(Crozet, VA / Western Albemarle) who finished the day with a
game-high 26 assists. Junior Bailey Troia
(Virginia Beach, VA / Ocean Lakes) tallied an additional 17
assists. Senior libero Marli
Dabareiner (Hardy, VA / North Cross) dug 19 Captain attempts
while Rossberg had 12 of her own.
Sophomores Courtney
Lowers (Suffolk, VA / Nasmond River) and Emily Ortiz
(Williamsburg, VA / Jamestown) both had 7 of the team's 25
blocks.
Randolph-Macon returns home Tuesday, October 8, to face Roanoke
College in conference play at 7:00 PM.
