Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – In a battle for first place in the ODAC, Randolph-Macon dropped a 6-3 decision at Lynchburg Sunday in field hockey action.
The Hornets (8-4, 3-0 ODAC) scored twice in the first half and led 2-0 at intermission. Senior forward Lauren Seal (Orange, Va./Orange County) scored early in the second period for the Yellow Jackets (7-6, 5-1 ODAC) to cut the lead to 1 at 2-1. Lynchburg added a goal in the 42nd minute before junior forward Rachael Gardner (Rapidan, Va./Orange County) got on the scoreboard for R-MC in the 56th minute to make it a 3-2 contest. The Hornets tallied the next three goals to make it 6-2 before junior midfielder Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) scored late in the period to make the final score 6-3.
Lynchburg held a slight 24-23 advantage in shots. Seal and Pricone both had six shots, with Pricone leading the Jackets with five shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Steph Talley (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) recorded 11 saves for R-MC.
The Jackets will have their final home game on Friday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. against Wilson. It will be Senior Day.
