Box Score EMORY, VA – Randolph-Macon opened the game with a 21-4 run and never looked back as it topped Emory & Henry 79-58 Saturday in ODAC Men's Basketball action.
R-MC (9-8 / 4-4 ODAC) scored the first nine points of the game and would take a 13-2 lead on a three-pointer by Akeem Holmes.
An Evan Jackson layup would make the score 21-4 with 10:28 to play in the half. Randolph-Macon's lead would reach 20 following a Holmes bucket with just over two minutes to play in the first stanza.
The Jackets' defense allowed E&H to shoot just 28.1% from the field during the half. The Wasps were only able to convert 9-of-32 shots in the first 20 minutes of action, leading to a 40-24 R-MC lead at the break.
Randolph-Macon would extended its advantage to 20 points when a Marcus Badger layup off a fast break made the score 46-26 with 18:30 to go in the game.
The Jackets' advantage would climb as high as 25 points when Holmes scored with under two minutes to play in the contest.
Holmes finished the game with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and pulled down a career-best 11 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double.
Lamar Giggetts joined Homes in double-figures with 14 points. Connor Sullivan had nine points, while Dylan Cole and Badger each had eight points for R-MC. The Jackets shot 44.8% for the game, making 30-of-67 shots from the field in the win.
Holmes led a frontline for R-MC that helped the Yellow Jackets to a 51-36 edge on the glass. In addition to Holmes, Andre Simon grabbed nine boards, Giggetts had eight and Cole had seven.
Armando Murrell had 18 points for Emory & Henry (3-12 / 1-7 ODAC), while Myles Turner chipped in with 10. The Wasps made 19-of-59 shots from the field
R-MC will be back in action at home on Wednesday when it hosts league rival Washington and Lee at 7:00 p.m.
