Box Score Ashland, VA – Trailing archrival Hampden-Sydney by 17 points with 13 minutes to go, the Randolph-Macon College Men's Basketball team rallied, but it was not enough as the Tigers claimed a 70-60 victory in Farmville on Wednesday night.
The loss marks just the fifth time H-SC has beaten R-MC in the last 24 regular season games between the two rivals.
H-SC (14-2 / 5-1 ODAC) started the game off hot, sinking 6-of-8 shots from the field to take an 12-2 lead less than four minutes into the game. The Yellow Jackets would rally, pulling within one at 26-25 with 4:19 left to play on an Akeem Holmes dunk.
H-SC would send the teams to the locker room with the score 35-31 after Cam Anderson scored with 51 seconds left on the clock.
The Tigers opened up the second stanza with its largest lead of the game, putting together an 18-5 run to take a 17 point, 53-36 lead with 13:20 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets (8-8 / 3-4 ODAC) chipped away at the H-SC lead and pulled within seven with 1:48 left to play after Marcus Badger was fouled and drained both shots from the charity stripe.
That would be as close as the Yellow Jackets would get as H-SC was able to sink 5-of-6 foul shots down the stretch to seal the win.
Andre Simon led R-MC with a team-high 14 points and four rebounds. Connor Sullivan had 10 points along with four boards, while Badger and Holmes each had nine points.
The Tigers got a game-high 15 points and seven rebounds from Khobi Williamson, including 5-of-6 from the foul line. Keegan Wetzel added 13 points along with 11 from Harrison George.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Saturday, January 19th when they travel to Emory, VA to take on the Wasps of Emory and Henry College at 2:00 p.m.
