Box Score ASHLAND, VA -- The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team stayed undefeated in the ODAC with a 3-0 victory over archrival Washington and Lee Wednesday night in Ashland.
The Yellow Jackets, which won by game scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 27-25, improve to 11-2 overall with win, while Generals drop to 5-1 in the league and 11-5 overall.
Mallory Carter led the way for Randolph-Macon with a match-high 13 kills in the win. Tori Puryear played a key role in the offense, delivering nine kills on 18 attempts, with just one error. Courtney Lowers finished the match with seven kills for R-MC. Katie Rossberg finished with five, while Erin Hagelberger and Jessica Sears had four. Bailey Troia dished out a team-high 22 assists and Riley Martin chipped in with 17.
Defensively, Marli Dabareiner had 18 digs and Sears had 15 stops . Rossberg also had five block assists at the net for R-MC.
With R-MC holding a slim 17-16 advantage in game one, the Jackets reeled off six of the next seven points to take a 23-17 lead following a kill from Puryear. The Generals would cut the lead to 24-21, before a Carter kill locked up the opening game for Randolph-Macon.
The Generals started game two off strong, taking a 12-7 lead on a kill by Anna Lausberg. The Jackets responded with a 9-0 run that was capped by a kill from Carter, giving R-MC a 16-12 lead. The Generals closed within two at 18-16, but R-MC closed out the game out by winning seven of the final nine points.
W&L came out of the gates strong again in game three, taking a 15-9 advantage on a M.A. Boles kill. R-MC would fight back and was able to tie the game at 24-24. Randolph-Macon fought off a second game-point and tied it up at 25, before winning the next two points to take the game 27-25.
Boles led Washington and Lee with 12 kills on the night, while Lausberg and Katie Tomb each had six kills.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on October 2nd when it hosts Virginia State at 7:00 p.m.
