Box Score ASHLAND, VA – A steady attack by Virginia Wesleyan propelled the Marlins to a 4-0 conference victory over Randolph-Macon. VWC controlled the offense, recording two goals in each half.
Krista Witmer struck first in the 25th minute with an assisted goal by Jessica Edelman. The Marlins' second goal was deemed an "own goal" when one of the Yellow Jacket defenders knocked the ball into the net.
The score remained 2-0 in the second half, until Caitlyn Bishop scored the third VWC goal in the 54th minute off of a penalty kick.
Virginia Wesleyan's last goal came from Jenna Riegel, assisted by Samantha Sanders, with just over seven minutes left in the game.
R-MC's best scoring opportunities came from Erin Hauser and Lindsey Hall. Both players had an open shot at the net, but could not capitalize.
Sophomore goalkeeper, Briana Housekeeper, took the loss in goal for the Yellow Jackets, registering eight saves.
VWC outshot R-MC 14-3 on the day and held a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on the 22nd at Hollins. Kick-off is set for a 2 p.m. start.
