Yellow Jackets Top Washington College 76-55 in Opening Round of 2012 R-MC Coaches Classic

ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon never trailed as it topped Washington College, 76-55, Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the 2012 R-MC Coaches Classic Sponsored by Kay Jewelers.  

R-MC (5-5) shot just under 50% on the afternoon, connecting on 26-of-53 shots from the field.  Connor Sullivan tied a career-high with 17 points, while fellow starter Andre Simon added 10 points in the victory.  Jamie Robinson and Dylan Cole each had nine points and Lamar Giggetts had eight.

Randolph-Macon recorded an assist on 13 of its 26 made field goals, getting a game-high six helpers from point-guard Marcus Badger.  Cole pulled down 10 rebounds to help R-MC to a 41-34 edge on the glass.  Lamont Moore came off the bench and grabbed a career-high six rebounds in 18 minutes of action for the Jackets.

R-MC opened up a quick 10-2 lead when Cole made a layup just under three minutes into the game.  

The Shoremen cut the lead to five at 18-13 on a Kevin Cuningham jumper with 12:17 left to go in the first stanza.

Following Cunningham's basket, the Yellow Jackets went on an 18-8 run over the next six minutes, opening up a 36-21 advantage when Sullivan drained one of his four three-pointers with 6:40 to go.

Washington would score the next five points to cut its deficit to 10, before the Jackets closed out the final 4:38 of the half with a 10-2 run to take a 46-28 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Randolph-Macon sealed the game by scoring 17 of the first 26 points of the second-half, widening its advantage to 26 points when a Trent Walker bucket made it 63-37 with 13 minutes to play.

Washington College (0-10) was paced by a team-high 17 points from Stephen Porarch.  Charlie McShane had 10 points for the Shoremen who shot 31.7% from the field, making 19-of-60 shots in the loss.

Randolph-Macon will face Manhattanville in the tournament championship on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  Mannhattanville closed the game with a 21-5 run over the final 6:18 of the second half to emerge with a 74-58 win over Frostburg State in the day's first game.
