Box Score

FERRUM, VA – Five Yellow Jackets scored in double-figures as the Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball team topped Ferrum 81-57 Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Randolph-Macon becomes the seventh team all-time in Division III to record its 1,400 program wins.  R-MC has won .615 of its games over the last 99 years, which ranks 27th best in the history of Division III.  The men's program has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons and twenty-one times since 1965. They have made two appearances in the NCAA Final Four. The first coming in 1977 and the second trip in 2010. The program has won numerous league championships, the most recent coming in 2011.

R-MC (1-3) shot 54.2% from the field, making 32-of-59 shots in the win, including 7-of-13 from behind the three-point line.  Lamar Giggetts led all scorers with a game-high 15 points.  Fellow starters Dylan Cole (12 pts.), Connor Sullivan (11 pts.) and Marcus Badger (10 pts.) all scored in double-digits, while Andre Simon came off the bench to score 10 points for the Jackets.  Simon also grabbed six rebounds to help R-MC edge Ferrum 42-35 on the boards.

The Yellow Jackets registered assists on 22 of their 32 made baskets in the win.  Badger and fellow point guard Trent Walker each dished out six helpers in the victory, while combining for just one turnover.

The Randolph-Macon defense did not allow any FC (2-2) players to score more than nine points and held the Panthers to 35.6% (21-of-59) shooting for the game.   Alek Ayer, Lamont King and Shon Goode all tallied nine points in a losing effort for Ferrum.

The Yellow Jackets came out firing, scoring the first seven points of the game and eventually pushed its lead to 14-3 when Chris Hamilton knocked down a jumper just over five minutes into the contest.

After a King basket cut the R-MC lead to 27-18 with five minutes left in the half, the Yellow Jackets would close out the first 20 minutes of play scoring 13 of the final 19 points to take a 40-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Randolph-Macon came out and opened the second stanza with a 12-5 run, stretching its lead to 52-29 on a Badger bucket with 17 minutes to play in the game.

R-MC made 16-of-29 shots in the second-half as it would see its lead grow to as many as 27 points when Akeem Holmes drained a three-pointer to give the Jackets 59-32 advantage with just over 14 minutes to go.

Randolph-Macon will make its regular season home debut on Wednesday when it opens ODAC play against Lynchburg at 7:00 p.m.
