Box Score WINCHESTER, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Volleyball team ran its sixth straight ODAC match as it knocked off new league member Shenandoah, 3-0, Wednesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets topped the Hornets by the game scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-15. R-MC is now 12-2 on the season and 6-0 in league play, while SU drops to 8-9 and 2-4 in the ODAC.
In game one, things were even at 10-10 before R-MC scored four the next five points to open up a 14-11 advantage. With the score 21-17 in favor of the Yellow Jackets, R-MC closed out the game with a 4-1 run capped by a Tori Puryear kill.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to an early lead in the second game, before SU was able to cut its deficit to five at 12-7. Following a timeout, R-MC reeled off three consecutive and five of the next six points to widen its lead to 17-9. The Hornets were able to get within four at 20-16, but a Mallory Carter kill would spark a 5-1 run to end the game.
Game three was tight throughout with R-MC holding a 16-15 lead after a kill by Shenandoah's Samantha Schambach. A Puryear kill made it 17-15 and got Randolph-Macon back on serve where Carter would help R-MC close out the match with four service aces in what proved to be a 9-0 run.
Puryear led the way with nine kills for the Yellow Jackets. Katie Rossberg scored eight kills, while Courtney Lowers had six. Bailey Troia and Riley Martin combined for 31 assists with 16 and 15, respectively.
Marli Dabareiner had 12 digs and Jessica Sears added nine stops, while Lowers had two stops at the net for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Friday when it travels to No. 5 and 2011 National Runner Up Christopher Newport.
