Box Score 2 ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team improved its record to 18-5 overall and 9-0 in the ODAC with a pair of league wins this weekend at Emory & Henry and Guilford.
Friday night at E&H, R-MC had to rally past the Wasps who came out and took game one from the Yellow Jackets 23-25. R-MC then took the next two games 25-20 and 25-21. The Wasps rallied to win game four 27-25, but the Jackets won game five in thrilling fashion 16-14.
Trailing 7-3 in game five, a Mallory Carter kill made it 7-4 and sparked what proved to be a 5-1 run for R-MC, with Carter tying the game at 8-8 with an ace.
With the score 10-10, R-MC reeled off three of the next four points, taking a 13-11 advantage on an assist block by Tori Puryear, Jessica Sears and Hillary Jessee.
Emory & Henry rallied to tie the game at 13-13 and fought off a match point to tie it at 14 all. Carter would then deliver two consecutive kills to close out the game and give R-MC the win.
Carter finished with 19 kills on the night. The senior also had a pair of aces, moving her into second-place all-time in R-MC history. Courtney Lowers had 14 kills while, Jessee and Puryear finished with 12 and 11, respectively. Bailey Troia led the way with 33 assists for R-MC and Riley Martin chipped in with 29 helpers.
Libero Marli Dabareiner was one of three Jackets' in double-digit digs with 20. Sears had 18 and Carter had 14. Katie Rossberg had eight block assists for R-MC, while Jessee had seven blocks and Puryear had six stops at the net.
In Saturday's 3-0 win over Guilford, Carter put up a match-best 15 kills to pace the Yellow Jacket offense, as R-MC won 25-7, 25-14, 25-15.
Puryear chipped in with nine kills on the afternoon and Troia had 19 assists for an offense that hit at a .440 clip. With two more serving aces against GC, Carter now has 205 for her career, which is good for 10th all-time in the ODAC record books. Dabareiner and Addie Cooper each had 10 digs defensively for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a key ODAC match slated for 7:00 p.m.
