Box Score LEXINGTON, VA – Washington and Lee rushed for 473 yards and took advantage of three key Randolph-Macon turnovers as the Generals topped R-MC, 49-14, Saturday in Lexington.
W&L (5-1 / 3-0 ODAC) scored just four plays into the contest to take a 7-0 lead and then recovered an R-MC fumble on the ensuing kickoff. The Generals capitalized three plays later to take a 14-0 advantage just 2:10 in to the game.
R-MC (4-2 / 2-1 ODAC) settled down, stringing together a nine play drive that covered 72 yards in just over four minutes. The scoring drive was capped by a Zac Naccarato toss to Vance Hendren from eight yards out, cutting the W&L lead in half.
After holding the Generals without a first-down on its next possession, R-MC had a chance to cut further into its deficit, but a 38 yard field goal failed. On the next play, Sasha Vandalov rushed 68 yards to the R-MC 11 yard line. Nick Lombardo scored two plays later to extend Washington and Lee's lead to 21-7.
Randolph-Macon drove down to the Generals 16 yard line on its next possession but Naccarato was picked off. W&L would take advantage scoring three plays later to go up 28-7.
R-MC rallied, rushing for 49 yards on its next possession and Naccarato hooked up with Luke Sellers on a nine-yard scoring pass to make it 28-14.
That would be as close as the Jackets would get as the Generals put the game away with scoring drives of 94 and 99 yards to open the second-half, pushing their lead to 42-14.
Naccarato finished the game 15-of-25 for 126 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Will McGhee ran for 69 yards on the day and Sellers grabbed six balls through the air for 61 yards.
Vandalov ran for 199 yards on just six carries and scored twice. Luke Heinsohn went for 125 yards on 14 carries.
Tom Solak had seven tackles for R-MC on defense, while David Fetter and Danny Hunt each had five stops.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action next Saturday during Homecoming. The Yellow Jackets will take on Guilford at 1:00 p.m. in Ashland.
