Randolph-Macon Tops Archrival Hampden-Sydney 86-80 in ODAC Hoops Action

ASHLAND, VA – Five Yellow Jackets scored in double-figures as Randolph-Macon topped archrival Hampden-Sydney, 86-80, Saturday afternoon in ODAC Men's Hoops action.

Randolph-Macon has now won nine games in a row and 12 of its last 13 contests. The Jackets improve to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the ODAC. H-SC falls to 13-4 and 7-2 in league play. R-MC has now won 13 of the last 15 regular season games against H-SC.

Andre Simon led R-MC with 18 points and eight rebounds. Lamar Giggetts had 15 points, while Calvin Croskey and Adam Desgain each had 14 points. Akeem Holmes came off the bench to score 10 points in just 16 minutes of action.

The Tigers got a team-high 17 points from Ben Jessee, including four three-pointers. Cam Anderson added 12 points off the bench along with 11 from fellow reserve Sasha Obradovic. The Jackets were able to hold the ODAC's leading scorer Harrison George (18.9 ppg) to just nine points on 4-of-16 shooting from the floor.

With the game tied at 23 with just over eight minutes to play in the first-half, R-MC went on a 13-4 run, taking a 36-27 lead on a Marcus Badger free-throw with 23 seconds to go. H-SC would send the teams to the locker room with the score 36-29 after Ru White scored as time expired.

The Tigers came out of the locker room on fire, scoring the first seven points of the second stanza, tying the game on a Khobi Williamson bucket.

A Croskey three-pointer on the Jackets' next possession was the first points of the half for R-MC and sparked what proved to be a 12-4 run that was capped by a Holmes Dunk to make the score 51-40 with 15 minutes to play.

Hampden-Sydney fought its way back, and tied the game at 69 after a pair of makes from the charity stripe by White with 4:30 to go.

Croskey would connect again from beyond the arc next time R-MC had the ball as the Yellow Jackets scored 11 of the next 15 points to take the lead for good.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Roanoke for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC tilt.
