Box Score ASHLAND, VA--- Randolph-Macon topped Eastern Mennonite, 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday evening. The women improved to 4-2-1, 2-0 in ODAC-play, while the Royals dropped to 0-8, 0-2 in the conference.
Ashley Stover scored in the first minute of the second overtime off a rebound to claim the victory for the Yellow Jackets. R-MC has now won three straight contests over EMU, dating back to 2008. The women remain unbeaten in their last five matches and sit atop the conference at 2-0 in the young season.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to an early lead just 15 minutes in on a score by Angela Mastellone. The goal marks the second straight game the freshman has found the back of the net. The host squad continued to dominate throughout the first period, outshooting their opponent 13-0.
EMU responded at the start of the second stanza, when Michelle Miller ripped a shot off a deflection past the keeper from just outside the box. EMU continued to attack in the second half, recording a 6-5 advantage in shots.
Both teams had a chance to end the contest in overtime. Randolph-Macon tested the keeper three times in the first extra period, but fell short each time. Eastern Mennonite just missed on their opportunity when they were turned away on a crucial save by Cecilia Quinonez.
Just 20 seconds into the final period, the Royals were called for a foul three yards outside the box. The ball bounced around the box before Stover slid the game-winner past the keeper and into the left side of the net. The goal was Stover's first of the year.
R-MC outshot EMU, 22-7 on the evening, including a 13-6 edge in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also held a 15-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Erin Hauser paced Randolph-Macon with six shots on the contest, three on goal. Jen LeBarge chipped in with four shots, three on goal.
Quinonez improved to 2-0 on the season, in just her second start. Briana Houskeeper also saw time between the pipes, picking up three saves in the second half. Jenni Beck took the loss in goal for the Royals, registering 11 saves to remain the league-leader in that category.
Randolph-Macon returns to action Saturday, September 24th as they host another ODAC-matchup in Randolph College. Kick-off is set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
