Box Score DANVILLE, VA -- After a lightning delay with six minutes left, Averett's Pernilla Milton scored her second goal of the match to propel Averett to a 2-1 victory over Randolph-Macon Women's Soccer on Thursday afternoon in the first match of 2011 for both teams.
R-MC got on the board in the 35th minute when Erin Hauser crossed a pass to Meredith Eckles who beat the Averett keeper to put the Jackets up 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets remained in the lead until the 75th minute when Averett's Milton scored from 10 yards out to tie the game at 1-1.
The game was then delayed with less than six minutes remaining due to lightning in the area. Less than a minute after play resumed, Milton struck again. The sophomore headed in a corner kick from Sandra Johansson in the 84th minute, and Averett held off Randolph-Macon (0-1) for the remainder of the game.
Randolph-Macon will open up its home season on Monday when it hosts St. Mary's of Maryland at 4:15 in Ashland.
