Box Score SALEM, VA – Behind 27 points from Danny Jones, No. 8 Randolph-Macon knocked off Eastern Mennonite 90-79 in the semifinals of the 2011 ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament.
R-MC is now 23-4 on the season and the Yellow Jackets advance to Sunday's championship game versus Randolph who upset top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. Saturday's win over the Royals is the third this year for R-MC and fourth time in the last five meetings.
Joining Jones in double figures was Lamar Giggetts who had a career-high 17 points in the win, while Eric Pugh had 15 points as well. Jones and Giggetts helped the R-MC bench out score the EMU reserves 51-18.
The Jackets made 27-of-50 shots on the night for a shooting clip of 54.0%, while holding the Royals to just 36% shooting on the night. Jones also grabbed nine rebounds, while Giggetts had seven.
R-MC was able to open up a close game with a 14-6 run in middle of the first half, with a Giggetts three-point play making the score 34-24 with just over the five minutes to go in the opening half.
The Jackets took a 40-29 lead into the intermission and scored seven of the first nine points of the second half pushing ahead 47-31 on a Pugh three-pointer.
R-MC maintained a double digit lead through most of the second half before EMU was able to chip away, cutting its deficit to just seven points with 5:13 to play after a DJ Hinson three-pointer made the score 71-64.
The Yellow Jackets scored the next five points to extend the lead back to double digits then made 12-of-14 free throws in the final 2:03 to seal the win.
EMU is now 22-5 and was led in scoring by Hinson who had 22 points to lead four players in double figures.
