Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon led wire-to-wire as the Yellow Jackets topped visiting Southwestern (TX,) 94-65, in the first day of the Yellow Jacket Classic in Ashland.
R-MC (3-1) was led by Adam Desgain who had 18 points on the night, on the strength of four makes from beyond the three-point line. Andre Simon had 12 points and a team-best six rebounds off the bench, while Lamar Giggetts chipped in with 10 points.
With the score 12-10 early in the first-half, the Jackets went on a 15-2 run that was finished off by a Connor Sullivan jumper just under 10 minutes to go in the first period.
Southwestern (0-5) cut the lead to 30-22 on a Nick Atiee bucket. R-MC then went on another 15-2 run that was capped by a Jamie Robinson layup that put R-MC up 45-24 with under four minutes to go in the half.
Randolph-Macon held a 52-29 lead at intermission then put the game away early in the second half, scoring nine of the first 11 points pushing its lead to 61-32 on a three-pointer from Giggetts.
The Yellow Jackets would lead by as many as 29 in the second half and shot 59.6% for the game, making 34-of-57 of their shots from the floor, including 12 trifectas. R-MC held a 35-20 edge on the glass and assisted on 20 of its 34 baskets. Twelve different Jackets scored in the win as well.
Randolph-Macon will take on Trinity (TX) at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the final game of the classic. No .1 Virginia Wesleyan will take on Southwestern at 2:00 p.m.
