Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team advanced to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Johns Hopkins on Friday afternoon. It is the third win for the program in NCAA Tournament play.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 24-5, while JHU ends the season 25-5. Randolph-Macon will take on either Emory or Richard Stockton in second-round action Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Christopher Newport University.
Mallory Carter led R-MC with 18 kills on the day. Tori Puryear had 10 kills, while Jessica Sears had eight and Hillary Jessee chipped in with seven. Bailey Troia directed the offense with 45 assists.
Defensively, Marli Dabareiner had 23 digs and Sears had 20. Carter also had 15 digs, while Joelle Gross had seven stops.
The Yellow Jackets hit .417 in the first game to take a 25-16 decision. They followed that with a 25-18 win in game two to take a commanding lead. R-MC had a lead late in game three, but the Blue Jays rallied to win 26-24. R-MC would close out the match with a 25-21 win in game four.
