Box Score WINCHESTER, Va--- Randolph-Macon topped Shenandoah, 4-1 Saturday afternoon. The women improved to 6-6, 3-1 in ODAC play, while the Hornets dropped to 3-10, 0-5 in the conference.
The win was the fourth straight for the Yellow Jackets, the longest winning streak of the year for the women. R-MC has won three consecutive contests over SU, outscoring the Hornets 14-1 over that stretch. The women now sit in a three-way tie for third place in the conference.
Randolph-Macon took an early lead when Melanie Graham found Meredith Young three minutes into play. Shenandoah's leading scorer Sarah DeLuca tied the game on a penalty stroke at the 18 minute mark. Four minutes later, Lauren Seal scored her team-best sixth goal of the year to give the Yellow Jackets a one goal lead heading into the half.
Ten minutes into the second stanza, Young converted on a penalty stroke to put R-MC up 3-1 and record her second score of the contest. Mikalea Rumley then found the back of the cage midway through the second period to give the final score.
Seal and Young paced the Yellow Jackets with four shots on the day. Seal now leads the women with 16 points on the year. She is tied for first on the team in goals with six and has dished out a team-best four assists on the season. Last year's VaSID Rookie of the Year is ranked third in the ODAC in shots with 41.
Nicole Woodworth picked up her sixth victory of the year, recording five saves on the day. She continues to lead the ODAC in saves with 128 on the season. Sarah Clare took the loss in goal for the Hornets, stopping seven shots on the afternoon.
R-MC outshot Shenandoah, 18-6, including a 15-6 edge in shots on goal. The women also held a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Randolph-Macon returns to action next Saturday, October 15th as they host Roanoke. The match is set for a 11:00 a.m. start.
