Box Score ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon topped Eastern Mennonite, 2-1 in ODAC play Thursday afternoon. The women improved to 5-6, 2-1 in the ODAC, while the Royals fell to 6-6, 2-1 in the conference.
The win was the second the second straight year that Randolph-Macon defeated EMU, the longest winning streak against the Royals since 2000.
After a scoreless first half, Lauren Seal got the Yellow Jackets on the board first just over 10 minutes into the second stanza. After having her first shot blocked, Seal fell to the ground, but rebounded and found the back of the cage to give R-MC the lead. Randolph-Macon took a two goal advantage in the 56th minute when Melanie Graham found Mikalea Rumley off a penalty corner for the eventual game-winner. Rumley played the original ball to Graham, then rushed into the box to redirect the pass from Graham past the keeper.
EMU got it's only score with less than a minute to play when Nicole Bencisk streaked down the left side of the field, beating two R-MC defenders for the goal.
Carrie Jacobs and Rachael Gardner led the Yellow Jackets with four shots each, two on goal. Graham dished out an assist and also picked up a defensive save, to bump her up to third in the conference in that category. Seal totaled two shots on goal, she is now second in the conference with 37 shots on the year.
Michelle Zooke and Camille Williams finished with three shots on goal for the Royals.
Nicole Woodworth took home the victory in a match-up between two of the better goalies in the conference. The junior recorded 10 saves on the day, giving her an ODAC-best 123 on the year. Mary Beth Danaher took the loss for EMU, blocking 12 shots. She sits third in the conference with 83 this season.
R-MC outshot Eastern Mennonite, 19-13, including a 14-11 edge in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also held a 12-7 edge in penalty corners.
The women return to action Saturday, October 8th as they travel to Winchester to take on Shenandoah. The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
