Box Score ASHLAND,VA – The Randolph-Macon Volleyball team used a balance attack that featured a season-high 13 service aces to knock off Lynchburg, 3-0, locking up the second-seed in the ODAC Tournament which begins on November 2nd.
R-MC, which won by game scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-16, improves 19-4 overall and 9-1 in ODAC play. LC drops to 14-8 overall and 6-3 in league play.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to a quick lead, going up 7-3 in the first game after a Tori Puryear kill. The Jackets would find themselves up 16-9 when a Jessica Sears kill would spark a 9-4 run to close out the game.
Game two saw Mallory Carter start things off with three consecutive aces to put R-MC out to an early advantage. With the score 9-4, Randolph-Macon went on an 11-4 run to go up 20-8. The Jackets closed out the game on kills by Bailey Troia, Sears and Puryear.
Game three was tight at the outset with R-MC holding a 14-8 lead early on. The Jackets would then reel off seven straight points, taking a 21-8 advantage on an ace by Troia.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Puryear who finished the night with 10 kills. Carter added eight kills and nine digs, while Sears had seven kills of her own. Troia dished out 30 assists in the win for R-MC. Carter and Troia each had four aces in the win as well.
Lynchburg was led by Rebbeca Loftis who had a team-high five kills for the Hornets who hit just .024 for the match.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it heads to Eastern University in Pennsylvania for a tri-match. R-MC will take on the host Eagles at 10:00 a.m. followed by a match at Noon with York College.
