Box Score GREENSBORO, NC – Gabriel Lowder's basket with 15 seconds remaining sent Guilford to a 62-61 victory over visiting No. 9 Randolph-Macon in ODAC Men's Basketball action Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.
With R-MC trailing 60-59 with 44 seconds to play, the Yellow Jackets' Danny Jones was fouled and promptly hit a pair of free-throws to put Randolph-Macon up by one.
Lowder then hit what would prove to be the game-winning shot on Guilford's ensuing possession.
Randolph-Macon had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but Adam Desgain's three point try bounced in and out twice as time expired, giving GC the win.
Randolph-Macon (17-3 / 10-2 ODAC), which falls for the first time in 13 games, got 19 points from Brandon Braxton, while Desgain and Lamar Giggetts each had 10 points off the bench for R-MC.
Guilford (13-7 / 7-4 ODAC) got a game-high 30 points from Josh Pittman who made 10-of-15 shots on the day, including five from beyond the three point arc. Lowder finished the game with 11 points, while Tobi Akinsola had 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, helping the Quakers to a 33-15 edge on the glass.
R-MC shot 49% on the afternoon, making 24-of-49 shots, while GC converted 22-of-49 (44.9%) attempts on the day.
With the score 13-8 in favor of Guilford with 11 minutes to go in the first half, Randolph-Macon closed the half on an 19-7 run which sent them into the break with a 27-20 advantage.
A Calvin Croskey three-pointer on the first possession of the second stanza put R-MC out in front 30-20.
Guilford chipped away, and took a 41-40 lead when Pittman drained a three-pointer with 11:43 to go in the contest.
The game featured four lead changes and two ties over the course of the next 10 minutes of game, before Braxton put R-MC up 57-55 with a jumper with 1:48 to play.
Pittman would convert a pair of free-throws on the other end to tie the game before Jordan Brown knocked down a jumper to put the Jackets back out in front by two points at 59-57 with 1:18 remaining, only to see Pittman drain a three on Guilfords next possession to put the Quakers up 59-58.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Tuesday when it closes out its non-conference slate with a trip to Christopher Newport for a 7:00 p.m. game.
