Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The
Randolph-Macon Football team put up 35 first-half points en route
to a 54-14 road victory over Methodist in the 2010 season opener
for both teams.
R-MC (1-0) racked up 487 yards of
total offense as it tallied its highest point total since scoring
55 points against Guilford in 2008.
The Yellow Jackets got an efficient
17-for-22, 253 yard, three touchdown performance from senior
quarterback Austin Faulkner. Faulkner's main target Earl Peoples
made 10 catches for 165 yards and two scores. R-MC also
gained 206 yards on the ground as well.
David Fetter and Billy
Knarr led the Randolph-Macon defense with eight tackles
each.
R-MC held Methodist (0-1) to a
three-and-out on the game's opening drive, then took just three
plays to score, as Faulkner and People's hooked up on a 54 yard
scoring strike.
Scruggs then helped the Yellow
Jackets double their lead, scampering for a 10 yard score with
5:34 to go in the first quarter.
Scruggs struck again at the 9:18
mark of the second quarter, running for a 15-yard touchdown to put
R-MC up 21-0.
After Methodist got on the board
with two yard run plunge by Joe Strickland, R-MC scored two
touchdowns in the final 2:11, including a nine yard pass from
Faulkner to Peoples with 31 seconds to go in first half, putting
R-MC up 35-7 heading into the intermission.
The Monarchs defense held the
Jackets on the first possession of the second half, but MU fumbled
the punt return, which was recovered by R-MC and led to a scoring
pass from Faulkner to Chase Phillips, pushing the R-MC advantage to
41-7.
Randolph-Macon will be back in
action next Saturday when it entertains Johns Hopkins. Kickoff is
slated for 2:00 p.m. in Ashland.
